Characteristic and wood color

A difference between sapwood and heartwood cannot be detected even in older trees. The wood is reddish-white, later darkening to a brownish shade and is essentially strongly reminiscent of pearwood. Annual rings and growth zones are always clearly visible. The wood is nicely flamed, fine but short-fibred, heavy, medium-hard, shrinks strongly and is durable.
