Characteristic and wood color

Sapwood and heartwood are not different. The wood is yellowish-white to reddish-white, practically without heartwood, matt-gloss, with pith flecks inside the wood body, similar to alder. Depending on the grain, the wood is plain to decorative, whereby particularly beautifully grained wood, so-called "flame birch", comes especially from Sweden and Finland.
