The Fäh House, originally built in 1969, was extensively renovated and reinterpreted between 2021 and 2024. The redesign by designer HANYA LEO from Zurich together with Handschin & Schweighauser Architekten from Basel and Hürzeler Holzbau combines classic mid-century elements with contemporary living quality.
A central design element is the FSC-certified Jatoba veneer from Roser AG. Around 600 m² of raw veneer was selected for the project and precisely cut to size using Veneer Express. The warm, reddish-brown colour tones of the wood, which is native to Central and South America, characterise the ceilings, walls and fixtures and create an elegant, homely atmosphere.
The client deliberately decided against classic types of wood such as oak or walnut and instead opted for jatoba, which has a strong character. Despite its origin as tropical wood, it impresses with its responsible forest management and traceable origin thanks to FSC certification.
The wood was selected together with the customer at Roser AG's concept.room. The result is a high-quality interior design project that harmoniously combines architecture, materiality and sustainability.
