Detailed Description

The tree is fast-growing and has essentially completed its growth by the age of 40. It reaches heights of over 30 m and a diameter of up to 150 cm. The shaft is usually short, as the branches begin to grow at a height of about 6 m, especially in the open air. The bark consists of thick-walled bast fibres. When young it is smooth, brownish-grey, later it tears into rectangular pieces and then resembles the English oak.
