Occurrence

Figured Sycamore is spread far over Central Europe, especially in the German low mountain ranges. But it is also found in Turkey, the Caucasus and the Mediterranean region. Figured Sycamore is not found in pure stands, but is exclusively associated with other hardwood species.

Characteristic and wood color

Sapwood and heartwood are not distinguishable. The wood is almost white to yellowish-white in colour when exposed to light and air, with a fine satin sheen. The structure is homogeneous and short-fibred, the texture very fine and even. Maple is a very popular wood for high-quality interior fittings, especially where special emphasis is placed on the white colour.
