Occurrence

The tree grows in the rainforest from the Guinea coast, Ghana to Angola and Uganda, especially in the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and Congo. It is a tree widely spread and appreciated in Africa and is one of the most beautiful species of wood.

Characteristic and wood color

The sapwood is narrow, whitish to pale yellow and well separated from the core. The heartwood is yellowish to light brown, later darkening to reddish brown, in longitudinal section of light to dark striped structure with a matt-gloss, chapel-like effect. The pores are coarse and scattered, partly with yellowish filling.
