Tradename De: Sipo Mahagoni, Utile

Tradename En: Utile

Properties

Raw density: 580 - 700 Kg/m3

Occurrence

Sipo is widespread throughout tropical Africa, partly also in East Africa, Cameroon, Congo and Uganda.

Characteristic and wood color

Split pin and core sharply separated. The sapwood is up to 6 cm thick and dirty white to greyish pink, not usable. The heartwood is reddish brown, later darkening to brown-violet, with a violet shimmer. The wood is recalcitrant, which results in rather broad longitudinal stiffness when cut. The wood is odourless in contrast to the strong crawling Sapeli. Sipo has a rather fine structure and is decorative.
