Characteristic and wood color

The sapwood is narrow, yellowish to pale reddish, the heartwood is red to violet, becoming brown-black towards the middle, later fading to reddish brown. The appearance of the wood is reminiscent of American walnut and is partly interspersed with veins of different colour depth. This gives it its decorative properties. The pores are medium-sized, scattered and numerous.
