Characteristic and wood color

Sapwood and heartwood are not sharply separated. The sapwood is narrow and slightly paler than the heartwood, which is brownish with a reddish tinge. It darkens only slightly. It is ring-porous just like the European oak and the annual rings are very clear. The structure is generally straight and dense, the texture is medium coarse and even.
