Eucalyptus veneer with a distinctive figured grain

For the interior of the Clouds restaurant, the architects Gigon/Guyer, in collaboration with Roser, selected a veneer that lends the sophisticated interior design a warm yet elegant material character.
The choice fell on an exceptional log of figured eucalyptus. The veneer is characterised by its lively figured grain combined with an almost uniform, warm brown tone. Careful smoking gave the wood an additional dark patina and a particularly expressive sense of depth. The selected log yielded veneer sheets over 40 cm wide.

A consistent veneer pattern for high-quality interior fit-out

Particularly in the case of large-scale interior fittings, it is not just the individual veneer surface that matters. Colour, texture and grain must harmonise across numerous components.
Selecting suitable veneer logs makes it possible to achieve a design that is both individual and consistent, even in large-scale projects. Roser has specialised precisely in meeting such requirements through the selection and grading of exceptional veneer logs.

For the Clouds project, the veneer was processed by strasserthun., a company specialising in bespoke interior design. The distinctive figured-grain structure of the eucalyptus is showcased across large areas, creating a warm contrast to the restaurant’s modern elements.

A landmark Swiss architectural project

When it opened in 2011, the Prime Tower, at 126 metres, was Switzerland’s tallest skyscraper. Today, the tower – designed by Gigon/Guyer – remains one of the country’s most iconic skyscrapers and is a landmark of Zürich-West.

The project is a prime example of how real wood veneer can be used in modern, urban architecture: applied over large areas, of high quality and individually tailored to the spatial concept.

Roser AG on the project

"The Prime Tower beautifully demonstrates the potential of an exceptional, carefully selected veneer log. The figured grain and smoking process give the eucalyptus a depth and elegance that are particularly striking across large surfaces."
